Rolling in Gold

The temperatures are finally starting to cool and the autumn leaves are getting their glow. September was a big month for trialing. All eyes have been on some big ones this past month. Meeker, Internationals, Worlds and U.S. Nationals in Carbondale Colorado. Our very own Vice President Maggie Yates was kind enough to let us tag along on her trip to Ireland. A huge thank you to Maggie for sharing interviews, photos and videos on our Facebook so that those of us here at home could have a front row seat. Here in the Pacific Northwest we had a big month of our own with Fido's Farm, A Sheperd's Retreat Autumn Kick Off and the return of the OSDS Encourager Trials! Our handlers were out in the fields with their dogs showcasing some serious work.

Fido's made their return to the post with their annual Labor Day Weekend trial.

Saturday Maggi McClure and Smith set the bar taking first in Open. Paul Murray and Don took second. Lisa Berglund and Amos took 6th and Paul Murray and Meg took seventh. Lisa Berglund stepped out to take the top spot in Pro-Novice with Joe. Saturday in Pro-Novice Lorri Mannas and Gimli took first place followed by Mike Ruckstuhl with Rix. Sunday Raenell Doyle and Jolie took first place in Pro-Novice followed by Lori Mannas and Gimli in second. Mike Ruckstuhl and Ren took third followed by Pam Reeves and Agnes in fourth, Dave Viklund and Tate in fifth, and Sarah Vining and Pemaquid in sixth. Running in the ranch class, member Reyna Parcells and Spot took third and Dave Viklund and Pete took fourth. Thank you to Chris Soderstrom and her team! Entries are open for October 27-29th. Make sure to get your entries in and join us at the post!

There was no better place to continue watching dogs work than at the base of the Western foothills in the Cascades. A Sheperd's Retreat Autumn Kick Off was the perfect welcome to fall. The weather was beautiful and Sheperds put together a picturesque trial to test handlers skills. Rising to the occasion was Lorrie Shubert! Saturday in Pro-Novice Lorrie took first with her dog Hattie. Mike Ruckstuhl took second with Rix, Kylo Murray-Gann took third with Quinn and Michelle Zipperman took fourth with her dog Maggie. In Open Lorrie Shubert once again went for gold taking first place with her dog Tess and also swept up fifth with her dog Glen. Sunday's first and second in Open were swept by Lorri Shubert with Glen in first and Tess in second. Sunday in Pro-Novice Lorri again took first with Hattie, Mike and Rix again took second and changing it up Lorri Mannas and Gimli took third. JB Brick and Fern took fourth. Congratulations to all the handlers and especially Lorri Shubert for such a great showcase. Thank you to Lynne Green and her team for hosting! Entries for A Sheperd's Retreat Winter #1 held November 11th, 2023 will open October 16th and close November 10th. Make sure to get your entries in and join for spectacular views and sheep!

Wrapping it up for the month was the return of our Encourager Trial Series. We could not be more thrilled to bring some opportunities to get new handlers and up and coming dogs out down here further south. We had a fantastic turnout for its return. The courses were challenging but the teams did not disappoint and we saw some great work. Ashley Smith and Wry got their feet wet in style taking first in Novice. Kailey Rhodes and Clark took second and Kayla Stone took third. Congrats to our Nov-Novs! Nancy Barrows and Flavia threw down the gauntlet handily winning in Ranch with first. Farley Scwantes with GCR Porter had a fantastic run taking second and Beth Lang took third with Wick. Well done to our Ranch class! Pro-Novice was a tough run for many dogs. Breanna Castell and Earl took first, Nancy Barrows and Flavia took second and Karyl Hansen with Betelgeuse took third. Congratulations ladies!

This years end of year awards are being held at Fido's Farm, November 5th. We are inviting you to join us with your pups in tow to come out and have some food and fun working dogs and celebrating this past years hard work. This year we will be doing awards and be honoring our trial hosts to say thank you for everything they do for our community. Theirs are the shoulders this community rests on and without them we wouldn't be able to do what we love. We are looking forward to showing them some love and we hope you will all join us. We would love to know you are coming. You can R.S.V.P. on the site. Sides will be potluck style if you would like to bring a dish.
